Jesus Will Return
In the Holy Bible, Jesus shares with his disciples that He is going to His Father’s house to prepare a place for those who have received Him as Lord and Savior, repented of their sins, and committed themselves to following His examples and teachings. He also tells them that he will come again to Earth to receive his followers.
Read John Ch 14:1-6
1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Verse 6 clearly shows us that we must know Jesus Christ in order to come into the presence of our Father in Heaven.
For those who know Him, there is good news! He has prepared a place for us in our Father’s house!
And even more exciting, Jesus is coming back to Earth to receive those who have placed their trust in Him so that, where He is, we may be as well! God loves us and wants us to receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior so that we may enter into His heavenly kingdom to be with Him for eternity. Thank you Lord God for the free gift of Jesus Christ who came to save us from the penalty of our sinfulness! It is up to us whether we accept God’s sacrificial gift or walk away from it. The Lord gives us a choice.
In 1 Thessalonians, Chapter 4 in the New Testament of the Bible, we read these words from Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy in a letter to the church of the Thessalonians:
13But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
Those are comforting words indeed to Christians. Whether we are still alive in Christ or have died in Christ, we as believers are all going up with the Lord into heaven when that moment occurs. This event is referred to as the Rapture by Christians. It comes from the Latin word rapturo which means “caught up” as seen in verse 17 above.
In his letter to the Corinthians, the apostle Paul makes further reference to the Rapture in 1 Corinthians, Chapter 15:
50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
We must live our lives for Christ if we are to be a part of this amazing day in the future. For if we remain faithful, the Lord will be faithful and take us with Him into glory.
Many people wonder “When will Jesus return?”
It is clear in the Bible that no man knows the hour. This is an answer that only the Lord God Almighty knows. I have read and heard many different views of Jesus’ return based on scriptures from the Bible. This topic is far too extensive for me to cover on this website. There are plenty of websites and books that do discuss the Lord’s coming in great detail. Based on all of the ones I have read, I must say that I am not certain when Jesus will return. I am only certain that He will indeed come back to gather all of those who have personally accepted Him as Lord and Savior!
Among Bible-based Christians, there are several views of the Rapture. Among those beliefs are that the Lord will come for His church prior to a seven-year period of tribulation in which the antichrist will emerge as ruler of the world. According to Bible prophecy, the first part of this seven years will be one of peace and prosperity. Then the second half will be a time of war and persecution, which will include Armageddon, the last major war on Earth. Another popular belief is that the Rapture of the church will occur at the end of the seven-year tribulation. Thus, you have pre-tribulation and post-tribulation views of the Rapture, among other variations, including no Rapture.
Whatever timetable the Lord has planned, I am thankful and excited about what lies ahead. The Word of God is true, so I know that what is written in the Bible is absolutely what will take place. The Lord will come back to Earth and gather all faith-filled Christians, dead and alive, to take us into His kingdom.
In the book of Matthew, Chapter 24, Jesus is speaking with His disciples about the end times. He lets them know that when the gospel of Jesus Christ has been preached to the whole world, then will the end come. Again, no one knows when that hour will be though, only our Father in Heaven.
I think it is important for you to read Matthew, Chapter 24. This chapter clearly refers to the tribulation, that seven-year period of great trial that is to come to this world. Jesus is preparing us for what is to come. He is seeking your heart today.
1And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places.
8All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
17Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
18Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
19And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
20But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
21For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25Behold, I have told you before.
26Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Verses 48-51 are ones that speak to me greatly. I must serve Jesus all the days of my life and live by the Word of God. For if I turn away from the Lord and be found living as a hypocrite when Jesus returns, my soul will not inherit the kingdom that Jesus has prepared for me. Therefore, as a Christian, I must be watchful and ask Jesus to help me stay on the straight and narrow path that He has placed me on. I must not try to do this in my own strength, for I will fail. Each day I must pray for the Lord to lead me in the way that I should go and to give me the supernatural strength to live according to His Word in my thoughts, words, and actions.
In other words, we must accept the Lord Jesus as our Savior and begin to live our lives based on how His precious Word tells us to live. Then we will be ready for His coming.
In 1 Thessalonians Chapter 5:1-10 the apostle Paul speaks on this theme as well to the church of the Thessolonians:
1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7For they that sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
All Christians must remain vigilant and prepare themselves for Jesus’ triumphant return. He is coming back to receive those who have placed their faith in Him to be their Lord and Savior. I hope you have already made that decision in your life. If not, I pray that you will. Please visit the Salvation Prayer page if you are ready to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.
